[SOUND CURTAIN OFFICE DESIGN GUIDE]

The OFFICE sound curtain system from Gerriets is an effective, multi-layer acoustic curtain and track system that can reduce sound by up to 26 dB.

Our OFFICE sound curtain system allows you to create "rooms at the touch of a button". Imagine the flexibility to acoustically and visually separate work areas, create conference zones or acoustically divide large meeting rooms into smaller gathering spaces.

The elegant track system with low profile and the possibility to create individual shapes gives you the creative freedom to design visually interesting and acoustically quiet rooms.

Gerriets offers a wide range of configuration options in order to design a customised solution together with you according to your wishes.

The great advantage of this system is that better sound insulation can be achieved by retrofitting additional inner layers.

System Highlights

  • Flexible meeting rooms
  • Room dividing acoustic curtains
  • From 11 dB to 26 dB sound insulation

In order to design a suitable system for your application, questions about the acoustic requirements of the curtain and the technical characteristics of the room must be considered. Below is a step-by-step guide to help you design and understand the most appropriate system for your application.

STEP 1: NUMBER OF CURTAIN LAYERS

There are five standard configurations to choose from that serve as acoustic separation.

Each of these configurations is assigned a dB reduction ratio. The inner layers (sound reflecting and sound absorbing) are not visible. They are located between the two decorative outer layers.

The parking space corresponds to approx. 1/5 of the total curtain width.

Our standard extra width for the outer layer is about 5%. This means that the outer layer fabrics are approximately 5% wider than the size of the curtain. In this way, the extra material creates a gentle "wave look" between the individual runners on the track and provides an aesthetically pleasing finish to the overall appearance of the soundproof curtain.

  • Sound insulation value: 11 dB
  • 1 x sound-reflecting inner layer
  • 2 x sound-absorbing decorative outer layers
  • Suitable for visual separation and minimal acoustic separation
  • With additional acoustic layers for a high level of acoustic insulation
  • Weight: 1500.00 g/m²*
  • Sound insulation value: 13 dB
  • 1 x sound-reflecting inner layer
  • 2 x sound-absorbing inner layers
  • 2 x sound-absorbing decorative outer layers
  • Suitable for visual separation and minimal to moderate impairment of speech intelligibility
  • With additional acoustic layers for a high level of acoustic insulation
  • Weight: 2100.00 g/m²*
  • Sound insulation value: 16 dB
  • 2 x sound-reflecting inner layers
  • 3 x sound-absorbing inner layers
  • 2 x sound-absorbing decorative outer layers
  • Optimal for visual separation and moderate reduction of speech intelligibility
  • With additional acoustic layers for a high level of acoustic insulation
  • Weight: 2800.00 g/m²*
  • Sound insulation value: 21 dB
  • 3 x sound-reflecting inner layers
  • 5 x sound-absorbing inner layers
  • 2 x sound-absorbing decorative outer layers
  • Suitable for visual separation and moderate to high reduction of speech intelligibility
  • With additional acoustic layers for a high level of acoustic insulation
  • Weight: 3600.00 g/m²*
  • Sound insulation value: 26 dB
  • 4 x sound-reflecting inner layers
  • 6 x sound-absorbing inner layers
  • 2 x sound-absorbing decorative outer layers
  • Optimal for visual separation and a high reduction of speech intelligibility
  • Example: For a high level of privacy when discussing sensitive information
  • Weight: 4500.00 g/m²*

STEP 2: SELECTION OF TEXTILES FOR THE OUTER LAYER

Both outer layers are visible and create the visual impact. Therefore, we offer a range of visually different fabrics as outer layers, from wool to flat weaves and velvet to two-tone options in many different colours. You can find the technical description of the individual fabrics under Downloads.

STEP 3: CURTAIN OPTIONS

The grip edge (Handgrip) is an elegant, functional patch made of a microfibre material that is sewn onto the part of the curtain where it can be gripped for manual pulling.

It helps to reduce wear and soiling of the outer layers and is also a visual indication of a passageway.

Depending on the functionality of the system, consider how the curtains are arranged on the track.

  • 1-piece curtains
  • 2-piece curtains
  • Multi-piece curtains

The OFFICE WINDOW is a transparent window that can be built into the OFFICE sound curtain. The window visually interrupts the curtain and is at the same time functional when you want to look into or out of the room. It is intended for curtain heights up to a maximum of 3.00 m.

  • Dimensions of the window: 20 cm wide x 3 m maximum height.
  • The windows are sold as individual panels. Please specify the location and number of window panels when requesting a quote.
  • The windows increase the parking space requirement by approx. 30 cm per window.

The wall connection profile provides a flush finish from the curtain to the wall. This reduces the lateral sound transmission. The outer layers of the curtain are connected to the profile strip attached to the wall by means of Velcro tape.

STEP 4: METHOD OF ASSEMBLY

The Gerriets OFFICE sound curtain is a complete system consisting of the TRUMPF 95 OFFICE track and a multi-layer sound curtain.

To provide the flexibility required for installation in many cases, there are a number of fixing methods that are suitable for most applications. If one of the standard options is not suitable, we can find a custom solution.

Designed for applications where a flat, load-bearing ceiling is available. If it is not a concrete ceiling but, for example, sheetrock, a load-bearing substructure (multiplex board or similar) must be installed on site.

This option offers the best acoustic effect as there is no sound leakage between the rail and the ceiling.

Designed for applications where surface mounting is not possible. The suspension can be used in open ceiling applications where the track is suspended visibly below the load-bearing ceiling.

Please note that this option results in a sound diffuser that reduces the acoustic effect of the sound curtain.

Another variant is to fix the rail under suspended ceilings. In this case, the suspension is not visible.

Office rooms with acoustic curtains as room dividers

Designed for applications where the track needs to be fixed to a wall. The wall must be load-bearing to support the weight of the track and curtain.

Please note that this option results in a sound diffuser that reduces the acoustic effect of the sound curtain.

STEP 5: CURTAIN OPERATION

Depending on the size, weight and complexity of your curtain, you will need to decide whether you want a manually operated curtain (sling track) or a motorised system. Remember to take into account the weight (step 1 - number of curtain layers) and the height of the curtain.

A sling track is a track system without a cable pull or motor. The curtain is opened and closed by hand using a grip edge (Handgrip).

The FRICTION DRIVE drive motor pulls the curtain along the track without the use of traction cables. Power is supplied via a trailing cable hidden in the curtain layers. Due to its friction drive, it has the unique advantage of being able to move very heavy curtains.

The FRICTION DRIVE drive motor is not visibly hidden between the outer layers.

ADDITIONAL CRITERIA

  • For arches, the minimum radius is 50 cm.
  • The minimum distance from the middle of the rail to any other obstacle (axis dimension) should be 15 cm.
  • If a wall niche is provided for the parking position of the curtain, the minimum width is therefore 30 cm.
  • As a general rule, the parking space should be approximately 20 % of its total width.
